Who we are

The Safal Uganda Baati Foundation is the corporate social responsibility arm of Uganda Baati Limited. It was launched in August 2024, at the company's 60th anniversary, to give six decades of community work a permanent home.

Uganda Baati has supplied the roofs on schools, hospitals, government buildings and homes across Uganda since 1964, when it began as the Steel Works Company in Tororo. The Foundation turns that industrial footprint into a social one.

Our activities are aligned to the Sustainable Development Goals adopted by UN member states. Investments are aimed at alleviating human suffering and empowering communities to better their lives — ending poverty, protecting the planet, and ensuring all people enjoy peace and prosperity by 2030.

Current and past investments respond to real social challenges: access to education and quality healthcare, deforestation, and the effects of disasters such as floods. All of it falls under our four strategic pillars: Education, Health, Environment and Shelter.

Our interventions follow the principles of sustainable development, so that we meet the needs of today without jeopardising the ability of future generations to meet their own.

Vision

A Uganda built with pride

Sharing the Safal Group vision of An Africa built with pride.

Mission

To promote solutions that increase opportunities and empower communities

Values

  • Care for our employees, communities and environment
  • Partnership and collaboration for shared success
  • Excellence and integrity in what we do

Our goals

Four pillars, four Global Goals

4

Education

Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education while promoting lifelong opportunities.

Our strategic goal is to increase access to quality basic education, skills development and training for vulnerable groups. We invest in programmes that help young people access opportunities and take part in productive socio-economic activity. When you educate young people you power the hopes of the next generation — which is why we invest in youth training.

3

Health

Ensure healthy lives and promote the well-being of all persons at all ages.

Our Health pillar contributes to access to quality primary healthcare and preventive services, to improve the health and productivity of communities. A healthy community makes a happy and productive society, so we keep investing in affordable primary care.

13

Environment

Take action to combat climate change and its impact.

The Environment pillar promotes sustainable solutions to safeguard and conserve the environment. With our parent company we treat it as our duty to keep reducing the environmental impact of manufacturing — through eco-efficiency, reduced energy and water use, and cleaner fuel sources — while restoring forest cover with national partners.

11

Shelter

Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable.

The Foundation contributes to better shelter for the less fortunate: re-roofing schools and children's homes, supporting health facilities, and helping communities hit by floods and other disasters rebuild by donating materials.

17

Partnerships for the Goals

Partnership for shared success is one of our core values. The Foundation will always seek strategic partnerships and collaborations with other stakeholders to realise our goals and vision. Working with Government, the private sector, philanthropic organisations, beneficiaries, civil society and communities, we are better placed to achieve A Uganda built with pride.
